Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has reached a settlement of approximately $25 million in a legal dispute initiated by former President Donald Trump. The lawsuit stemmed from the suspension of Trump’s accounts following the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, which involved supporters of Trump storming the building.
In addition to Meta, Trump has pursued legal actions against Twitter, now branded as X, as well as Google and the executives of these firms. His claims center on allegations of wrongful suppression of views.
The suspension of Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram was enacted after he made remarks during the Capitol incident, during which he reiterated unfounded claims of electoral fraud pertaining to his loss in the 2020 presidential election.
Of the total settlement amount, $22 million will be allocated to the Trump Presidential Fund, while the remaining balance will cover legal expenses and compensation for other plaintiffs involved in the case.
