Martyrs Foundation to Exempt Families from Car Import Fees

Economy News – Baghdad

The Martyrs Foundation is set to finalize regulations for implementing a decision that grants a one-time exemption from import fees for vehicles to its beneficiaries.

Tariq Al-Mandalawi, the Director General of the Legal Department at the Foundation, announced that “Law No. 23 of 2024” has been amended to include the exemption of families of martyrs from various backgrounds—be it those affected by oppressive regimes, terrorism, or martyrs associated with the popular crowd. This exemption applies strictly for the single occasion of importing a vehicle, covering both customs duties and traffic registration fees.

Al-Mandalawi emphasized that a specialized committee formed by the Foundation is working to establish controls aimed at ensuring equitable treatment among beneficiaries. This committee will assess eligibility based on factors such as age, type of vehicle, and its country of origin. The goal is to finalize these controls promptly, allowing for the decision to be enacted and disseminated across all Foundation branches in Baghdad and various governorates.

Additionally, Al-Mandalawi noted that the Foundation has coordinated with the National Customs Authority to facilitate the fee exemptions for vehicles upon approval of the controls. The General Traffic Directorate is also involved to waive drawing fees, backed by official documentation from the Foundation that will accompany the exemption process.
