Economy News – Update
A recent lawsuit has been filed challenging comments made by Elon Musk regarding federal employees, in which he discouraged them from responding to an email soliciting a weekly report of their achievements, warning that failure to comply could result in forced “resignation.”
This amended lawsuit, presented in the California Federal Court, emerges against the backdrop of confusion and disagreement within the federal government regarding whether employees should engage with the email distributed by the Personnel Management Office.
Federal agencies across the United States advised employees against responding to an email from the Trump administration, which asked them to report their work accomplishments from the previous week. The correspondence implied potential job separation for non-compliance, amid a broader, chaotic endeavor to streamline the federal workforce.
Officials appointed by the Trump administration within the FBI and State Department sent directives to employees, instructing them not to respond to any communications outside the established hierarchy. This may reflect an existing tension between Trump’s associates and Musk, who has initiated a campaign aimed at reducing the federal civilian workforce, which currently stands at approximately 2.3 million.
