Kurdistan Oil Exports Resume Following Baghdad Agreement

Kurdistan Regional Government Secures Oil Export Agreement with Federal Ministry of Oil

On February 23, 2025, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced that it has successfully reached a consensus with the Federal Ministry of Oil to restart the export of oil from the region. This agreement follows extensive coordination and communication between the two entities.

According to a statement from the KRG’s negotiating delegation, a joint technical team has been established to assess the export pipeline’s condition and ensure its readiness for resuming oil pumping operations.

The KRG reiterated its commitment to adhere to the provisions outlined in the Federal Public Budget Law. This initiative aims to strengthen collaborative efforts and stabilize the flow of oil revenues, which is crucial for both the regional and national economies.

It is important to note that oil exports from the Kurdistan region had previously been halted due to various technical and administrative challenges. This new agreement is part of ongoing initiatives to resolve existing disputes related to the oil and energy sector between Baghdad and Erbil.

As this situation develops, the economic implications of resuming oil exports will be closely monitored, given the vital role these revenues play in the financial stability of the region and the country as a whole.
