A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has arrived in Baghdad to finalize discussions regarding the resumption of oil exports through the Turkish Jihan pipeline, according to informed sources.
Sources indicate that the KRG’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources is currently engaged in meetings with officials at the Federal Oil Ministry. The purpose of these discussions is to address the critical matters concerning the resumption of oil exports from the region’s fields, alongside other operational issues pertaining to oil companies.
Initially, this meeting was scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday; however, developments in the negotiations have prompted an earlier convening. Details surrounding these discussions have not been elaborated upon.
Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Oil has called on international oil companies operating under the “Apuroor” umbrella—contracted with the KRG and the Ministry of Natural Resources—to attend a pivotal meeting in Baghdad set for Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Despite these ongoing negotiations, eight international oil companies currently active in the Kurdistan Region have declared they will not resume oil exports through the Turkish port of Jihan, even as Baghdad has signaled an imminent appeal for the export operations to recommence.
Just a few days prior, Hayyan Abdel-Ghani, the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, announced expectations for the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region through the Turkish port almost immediately.
