Kurdistan and Turkey Forge Stronger Economic Ties: Key Talks on Railway Connectivity to Europe

Masroor Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, announced the conclusion of a meeting with Turkish Finance Minister Muhammad Shimashk on Wednesday. This engagement took place during his attendance at the second day of the World Government Summit in Dubai.

The discussions, as outlined in a statement from Barzani’s office, focused on strengthening the commercial, economic, and investment relations between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey, ensuring mutual benefits for both parties.

Furthermore, the two officials reviewed ongoing efforts to address the unresolved issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Federal Government, including the necessary measures for the prompt resumption of oil exports from the region.

The agenda also included dialogue about the strategic “Road of Development” initiative, which aims to connect the Gulf states, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region with Turkey, subsequently linking to European countries through a comprehensive rail network.

Both parties reached a consensus on the importance of ensuring significant participation of the Kurdistan Region in this key infrastructure project.
