January Salaries Set to be Distributed Soon: KRG Update

Ministry of Finance and Economy Updates Salary Distribution

The Ministry of Finance and Economy of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced that the salary entitlements for the first month have been successfully deposited into its account and distribution is set to commence shortly.

In a statement released on Tuesday, February 4, the KRG reported that the federal government has processed these funds through the Erbil branch of the Central Bank of Iraq.

The Ministry emphasized, “Our teams are actively finalizing the necessary procedures to ensure the funds are received, and the distribution of salaries will begin soon.”

This announcement coincides with recent discussions in Baghdad, where Awat Sheikh Janab, the KRG Minister of Finance and Economy, stated that an agreement has been reached with the federal government regarding the smooth payment of salaries for the current year.

“We are pleased to announce that the issues concerning the salaries of employees for January 2025 have been resolved, and we anticipate that the salary distribution will commence tomorrow. We hope this will be the final notification regarding salary disbursement, as employees have faced challenges for nearly 12 years,” Janab remarked.

It is important to note that this development pertains specifically to the first month’s salaries, while the salaries for the 12th month remain unpaid. The KRG had successfully distributed 11 months’ salaries last year; however, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance contends that it has dispatched funds covering all months.
