Iraq’s Civil Aviation Activity Reports Growth in January 2025

Baghdad, February 17, 2025 – The Ministry of Transport has announced the registration of a significant number of civilian flights in Iraqi airspace during January 2025, totaling 18,001 flights. This statistic underscores the continued growth of the country’s aviation sector.

According to a statement from the ministry, these figures were compiled by the Department of Statistics, Planning, and Follow-up within the General Company for Airports and Air Navigation Management. The breakdown shows that of the total flights, 792 were domestic, while international flights accounted for 7,868.

The ministry noted the operational capacity of Baghdad International Airport is currently 7.5 million passengers per year, while both Erbil and Najaf Airports each have an annual capacity of 3 million passengers. This data highlights the critical roles these key airports play in bolstering air travel within Iraq and promoting regional and global connectivity.
