Iraq’s Oil Ministry Denies Allegations of Iranian Oil Purchases and Ensures Export Transparency

Economy Update – Baghdad

On Monday, the Ministry of Oil released a statement addressing allegations regarding the purchase or re-export of Iranian oil.

The Ministry clarified that “all quantities of Iraqi crude oil are exported in accordance with global standards and mechanisms that ensure maximum transparency. Our oil is sold to reputable international companies with accredited refineries and is priced on a Free on Board (FOB) basis from Iraqi export ports.”

The Ministry firmly refuted any claims regarding Iraq purchasing or receiving Iranian crude oil for re-export, emphasizing that “all export operations are conducted under stringent controls.”

Furthermore, it highlighted that “for oil products, the Ministry publicly announces the quantities available for sale and solicits bids from trustworthy local and international companies. The loading of quantities at Iraqi ports is conducted with full transparency, ensuring compliance with international sanctions by avoiding dealings with sanctioned companies or carriers. All carriers responsible for transporting oil products from Iraqi ports are documented to enhance transparency.”

The Ministry also stressed that “Iraq collaborates with global monitoring platforms such as the Kepler Agency to guarantee the integrity of the transfer processes across maritime routes, preventing any manipulation until the products reach their designated destinations. Should any irregularities arise, appropriate corrective actions will be executed against the purchasers.”
