On Sunday, Health Minister Saleh Al-Hasnawi announced a significant cooperation agreement with the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi, aimed at advancing Iraq’s healthcare capabilities. A key aspect of this partnership includes Sanofi’s intention to establish a manufacturing facility in Iraq dedicated to local medicine production.

In an official statement, Al-Hasnawi emphasized the Iraqi government’s commitment to fostering scientific advancements across various health domains. He highlighted that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry of Health and Sanofi seeks to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals, particularly those in nursing. Additionally, the agreement focuses on addressing challenges related to the documentation of rare diseases and cancer treatments.

Al-Hasnawi pointed out that Sanofi has an established history of collaboration in Iraq. He expressed optimism that this agreement will facilitate tangible improvements in the Ministry of Health, especially in developing nursing staff qualifications. The collaboration includes a competitive contract with the Ministry for the provision of medicines, and it envisions cooperation with the Iraqi pharmaceutical sector to support the government’s objective of localizing the pharmaceutical industry. Al-Hasnawi expressed hope that the factory project will materialize within the near future.
