Iraq’s Government Unveils Gas Pipeline Plans for Summer Energy

Economy News – Baghdad

The Prime Minister’s Media Office announced that a periodic meeting was held on Sunday to monitor the progress of oil sector projects. One of the key outcomes of this meeting was the decision to extend a new gas pipeline from the Mahmoudiyah district to the city of Basma, spanning 40 kilometers. This initiative aims to ensure that a gas station operates at full capacity during the upcoming summer months.

During the session, Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani led the discussions focusing on the strategic plan for securing electrical energy for the next summer season. The Minister of Electricity presented the ministry’s plan for energy security, which included the operational strategy for gas stations. Additionally, the Minister of Oil outlined the strategy for supplying electricity stations with the necessary fuel quantities, alongside discussions about floating and mobile platforms and the bidding processes associated with these projects. It was resolved to expedite the completion of the gas transmission line connecting the power plants in Basra to the mobile platform, with the signing of contracts for this purpose prioritized to ensure timely delivery of services.

The meeting also addressed the gas oil requirements for the stations, financial implications, storage considerations, and all aspects pertinent to the fuel importation process. Furthermore, progress on strategic projects of the Ministry of Oil not included in the government program was reviewed, particularly the fifth and sixth licensing round projects as well as the Basra-Haditha oil transmission tube project. The meeting evaluated the achievement rates of these initiatives and assessed progress made up to February for oil sector projects within the governmental framework.

Furthermore, completion rates for extraction sector projects were discussed, notably the joint seawater pipeline project of the Basra Oil Company. Updates included the joint seawater treatment plant project, the fourth and fifth marine pipeline projects, the third marine tube project, and the ongoing development of the Artawi Gas Complex (second stage), along with the Mansourieh, Akaz, and Al-Faiha fields, while also addressing the fifth licensing round and the FCC Craft Unit project’s progress.
