Minister Fadel underscored the critical nature of strategic cooperation with prominent global energy firms like Siemens, describing it as a cornerstone of the ministry’s initiatives to modernize the electricity infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of national networks.

"We aim to broaden the horizons of technical collaboration and facilitate the transfer of advanced experiences in renewable energy and smart grid technologies," Fadel stated. He elaborated on how these advances would strengthen the ministry’s workforce capabilities and facilitate the significant transformation expected within the electricity sector.

Siemens’ Support for Energy Sector Development

The Siemens delegation expressed its commitment to supporting the Ministry’s projects designed to develop the energy sector. They outlined the company’s expertise and advanced technologies available to assist in these endeavors.

Notable Agreements and Collaboration

The partnership between Iraq and Siemens has seen substantial progress in the electricity sector, with multiple significant agreements established since the beginning of 2023 aimed at bolstering electrical infrastructure.

  • January 2023: A memorandum of understanding was signed in Berlin to enhance the electrical system, including the establishment of associated gas generation and investment stations.
  • March 2023: Three contracts were signed for the maintenance and rehabilitation of generating stations with a combined capacity of 1400 megawatts.
  • March 2024: Agreements were reached for investing in gas by converting it into fuel for electricity generation.
  • July 2024: An agreement was made to construct five transformational stations to bolster the electrical transport network.

These projects are geared towards improving network stability and boosting production efficiency across Iraq’s electricity infrastructure.
