The General Company for Iraqi Ports has released its operational statistics for the maritime affairs department from the previous month, indicating sustained commercial activity and maritime navigation despite global challenges within the maritime transport sector.

Farhan Al-Fartousi, the general manager of the Ports Company, reported that during January 2025, the Maritime Affairs Department recorded the establishment of a total of 341 vessels, including an oil tanker, across various Iraqi ports. Notably, operations primarily focused on major Iraqi ports, such as oil and commercial ports, with 74 oil tankers registered in the Arabian Gulf waters while the Umm Qasr North and South ports accounted for 161 vessels plus a carrier.

Additionally, Khor Al-Zubair Specialized Port saw 68 ships and one carrier established, while the liquid gas port experienced the entry of eight tankers. Furthermore, 29 vessels were recorded at the port of Abu Flos. These figures underscore the ongoing commercial activity and movement in maritime navigation, despite the obstacles present in the global maritime transport industry.

Al-Fartousi emphasized that these statistics demonstrate the capacity of Iraqi ports to satisfy both local and international market demands, highlighting the vital role these ports play in facilitating trade and maritime transport.

He continued, noting that the success of these operations reflects the General Company for Iraq Ports’ commitment to excellence in marine logistical services.
