Iraqi Finance Ministry Refutes Claims on Security Forces’ Salaries

Iraqi Ministry of Finance Issues Clarification on Salary Scale for Military and Police Personnel

The Iraqi Ministry of Finance has formally refuted statements regarding potential reductions in salaries for army and police personnel, emphasizing that these claims are unfounded and misleading. Minister Taif Sami provided a coordinated response to clarify the situation.

In an official statement, the Ministry expressed, "The assertions circulated regarding the salary scale law for employees are incorrect. No official position has been articulated indicating that the lack of approval for the law is linked to the salaries of army and police employees, nor have we suggested any reductions."

The Ministry further condemned the spread of misinformation, stressing that "these allegations and any similarly misleading narratives have no basis in fact." They indicated that such fabricated rumors aiming to distort financial and accounting policy will face legal repercussions.

To prevent further confusion, the Ministry encouraged all stakeholders and individuals to refrain from disseminating unverified information.

This clarification follows a surge of speculation on social media, where a statement was falsely attributed to Minister Sami. The misattributed claim suggested that the application of the salary scale was contingent on reducing the salaries of military and police personnel from 1.6 million dinars to 1 million dinars, citing concerns over a budget deficit.

With an emphasis on transparency and accuracy, the Ministry of Finance aims to mitigate misunderstandings and ensure clarity within the framework of Iraq’s financial policies.
