KRG’s Fiscal Negotiations with Baghdad Progress
The delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has made strides in its discussions with the Iraqi Ministry of Finance, led by Minister Taif Sami. Halkawt Aziz, reporting from Baghdad, indicated that a decisive agreement was reached to commence payments for January salaries starting tomorrow.
While the specific financial arrangements remain undetermined, the KRG delegation has been actively engaged in talks in Baghdad for the last two days. This collaboration falls under the oversight of Dr. Fuad Hussein, the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Iraqi Economic Council. The KRG’s team, headed by Minister of Finance and Economy Awat Sheikh Janab, consists of key figures such as Dr. Omid Sabah, Head of the Office of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Amanj Rahim, Secretary of the Council of Ministers, and Dr. Abdul Hakim Khasraw, Head of the Coordination and Monitoring Office.
During the previous year, the KRG successfully disbursed a total of 11 salary payments. In parallel, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance has asserted that salaries for all months are being processed efficiently.
As of today, Saturday, the Ministry of Finance of the Kurdistan Region has confirmed that negotiations with the Iraqi Ministry of Finance are ongoing, with expectations set for a swift conclusion. A recent statement highlighted the constructive atmosphere surrounding discussions on the KRG budget and salaries, referencing a positive and responsible environment conducive to reaching an agreement.
