Prime Minister Mohamed Shi’a Al-Sudani of Iraq and Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly convened at the Iraqi-Egyptian Economic Forum in Baghdad on January 30, 2025. The event saw participation from both Iraqi and Egyptian chambers of commerce and attracted over 300 businessmen from both nations, focusing on exploring joint cooperation opportunities across various sectors.

In his address at the forum, Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Iraq and Egypt, highlighting the social and economic connections that underpin bilateral partnerships. He noted that these connections provide a solid foundation for both countries’ private sectors to collaborate across diverse economic fields.

He further remarked, “Economic reforms across various dimensions—banking, administrative, tax, and investment—have created a conducive environment for Egyptian companies to operate in Iraq. We aim to bolster collaboration with the Iraqi private sector while also extending opportunities for Iraqi businesses in the Egyptian market.”

Similarly, Prime Minister Madbouly underscored the commitment from Egypt, both politically and socially, to foster cooperation and partnership with Iraq. He referred to the current regional dynamics that prompt a shift towards economic integration and political collaboration, which he believes will benefit both the Iraqi and Egyptian peoples through enhanced advancement and development.
