Turkey’s Ornamental Plant Sector Shows Promising Growth
Rise in Rose Exports
The Board of Directors of the Federation of Ornamental Plant Producers in Turkey has announced that Iraq is now formalizing the list of countries authorized to import shed roses from Turkey.
Safash Akjan, a representative from the federation, stated that over the past five years, Turkey has successfully cultivated 523 million roses across an area of 270 hectares. During this period, the sector generated revenue amounting to $2.92 million from the export of chopped roses.
Export Performance in 2024
In 2024, Turkey’s sales of chopped rose exports reached a total value of $441,741. Of these exports, Iraq emerged as the largest market, accounting for $148,732, followed closely by Turkmenistan with $137,424 in purchases.
The total rose exports for Turkey stood at 75 million units, distributed among 30 countries. The leading destinations included the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Germany, with heightened activities surrounding the Valentine’s Day occasion on February 14.
According to Ismail Yilmaz, the head of the Association of Decorative Plants and Products in Turkey, the sector is poised for a robust performance heading into 2025.
