Iraq to Boost Oil Exports via Kurdistan Pipeline to Turkey

Iraq’s Oil Export Strategy: Collaboration with Turkey

The Iraqi government is poised to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) oil pipeline to the Turkish port of Ceyhan. This strategic move was discussed by the Iraqi Oil Minister during a recent meeting of the Iraqi-Turkish committee.

Hayan Abdul Ghani, who serves as Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister, stated, “We will soon activate the oil exports through the pipeline to the Turkish port. There is potential for increased exports from the Basra oil fields via this route.”

The remarks were made during a session convened in Baghdad to review the progress of the Iraqi-Turkish joint committee, attended by members from various Iraqi ministries. According to a statement from the Iraqi Oil Ministry, the discussions centered on critical issues, particularly those concerning water and oil resources.

Abdul Ghani emphasized the significance of addressing water resource management to ensure Iraq’s equitable share. The agenda of the meeting included a variety of topics related to the subcommittees responsible for water, energy and oil, education, border management, trade, and youth and sports initiatives.

The committee concluded that enhancing the technical capabilities of its members is crucial, and that the activation of joint work with the Turkish authorities is imperative for safeguarding national interests.
