Economy News – Baghdad

Hammoudi Al-Lami, the Advisor to the Prime Minister for Industry, Development, and the Private Sector, announced on Monday that the number of pharmaceutical factories in Iraq has grown to 32, with an additional 18 factories currently under construction. Notably, one of these facilities will focus on the production of cancer medications, marking a significant advancement in Iraq’s pharmaceutical sector.

According to Al-Lami, “Iraq is experiencing a transformative phase in pharmaceutical manufacturing, with a total of 32 operational drug factories and 18 more in various stages of development, some reaching completion levels of up to 95%.” He emphasized that the commencement of these new factories will occur in a staggered manner, contributing to reduced medication costs for citizens and enhancing the protection against counterfeit drugs.

Al-Lami further noted, “The initiative to establish a cancer drug production facility not only addresses a critical healthcare need but also aims to alleviate patient suffering through accessible, life-saving treatment options. This pioneering project will be the largest of its kind in Iraq, with the initial phase projected to be completed within four months.” The factory is expected to produce a range of pharmaceutical forms specifically targeting cancer care.
