Iraq Elected Vice-Chairman of UN Tourism Committee, Boosting Regional Tourism Development

Iraq has marked a significant milestone by securing the role of Vice-Chairman of the Middle East Committee of the United Nations Tourism. This achievement was announced following the country’s participation in the fifty-first meeting of the committee, attended by various Arab tourism ministers and officials from member states.

The event highlights Iraq’s advancements within the tourism sector and underscores its increasing influence on both regional and international stages. Nasser Murad Ghanem, Chairman of the Tourism Authority, led the Iraqi delegation, which also included Jabbar Mannon Al-Gharibawi, Director General of the Tourism Facilities Department, and Ali Yassin, Director of the Department of International Relations. Together, they engaged in extensive discussions with their counterparts to foster collaboration in tourism across Arab nations.

As part of their diplomatic efforts, the Iraqi representatives distributed commemorative gifts, which included copies of the “Baghdad Capital of Arab Tourism for the Year 2025” publication, the Baghdad Tourist Guide, and decorative carpets portraying Iraq’s historical and archaeological sites. Additionally, they presented medals featuring the slogan “Baghdad, the Capital of Arab Culture and Tourism.”

This elevation to Vice-Chairman is a crucial step for Iraq as it prepares to host the upcoming activities related to “Baghdad, the Capital of Arab Tourism for the Year 2025.” This event is poised to showcase Iraq’s rich cultural and historical heritage, further solidifying its position on the global tourism map.
