Iraq as a Key Transit Hub for Global Telecom Companies

Economy News – Baghdad

The Minister of Communications, Hayam Al-Yasiri, announced today that international corporations and significant countries are seeking to utilize Iraqi connections for their transit needs. This transit project is poised to significantly enhance Iraq’s revenue streams.

In an interview, Al-Yasiri emphasized the importance of transit projects, stating, “Every Iraqi citizen who cares about Iraq’s position in the region should pay attention to these initiatives.” She noted that agreements such as the IQ contract symbolize Iraq’s growing reputation on the global stage, as leading telecommunications firms and key nations in the Gulf region direct their focus to Iraq for their connectivity solutions.

Al-Yasiri further elaborated that, “Focusing on this project is critical for Iraq’s interests and for enhancing national revenues and worldwide standing in terms of security and economic stability.” She explained that many countries are reluctant to rely on maritime routes for their communications due to prevailing security concerns, which makes the Iraqi corridor, linking Iraq to Europe through Turkey, an attractive and reliable alternative.

She cautioned that misrepresentation and public disinformation regarding this project could jeopardize Iraq’s reputation and interests, suggesting that these attacks may stem from narrow competitive interests of rival companies.
