Economic Insights – Baghdad
Prime Minister Mohamed Shay’a Al-Sudani has reaffirmed the strong foundation underlying the bilateral partnership between Iraq and Egypt.
In a recent statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, it was announced that Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani, alongside Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, attended the Iraqi-Egyptian Economic Forum held in Baghdad. This event saw the participation of both Iraqi and Egyptian chambers of commerce, gathering over 300 business leaders from both nations to explore opportunities for joint cooperation across various sectors.
During his address at the forum, Al-Sudani highlighted the historical and civilizational ties between Iraq and Egypt, underscoring the social and economic connections that serve as a robust basis for partnership and opportunities, particularly for the private sector’s engagement across economic fields in both countries.
He noted that “economic reforms encompassing banking, administrative, tax, and investment dimensions have paved the way for Egyptian companies to operate in Iraq and establish significant partnerships with the Iraqi private sector. We aim to broaden these activities towards additional opportunities and sectors within the Egyptian market as well.”
The Egyptian Prime Minister echoed Al-Sudani’s sentiments, emphasizing “the political and popular commitment in Egypt to collaborate and partner with Iraq to build a prosperous industrial, agricultural, economic, and service-oriented hub.” He remarked on the current regional circumstances prompting a collective shift towards economic integration and political coordination for the benefit of both Iraqi and Egyptian populations, aiming for greater advancement and development.
