Economy Update – Follow-up
Mahdi Hassan Abbasi, the Director General of Border Affairs and Border Areas at the Iranian Ministry of Interior, disclosed on Wednesday that a total of 112 official crossings in Iran are engaged in economic activities with neighboring countries, including Iraq. He emphasized that the Bruzkhan border crossing plays a crucial role as a commercial hub for the passage and export of goods to the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
During his field visit to the Bruzkhan crossing, Abbasi noted that, “Coordination among relevant authorities is progressing positively, which will enhance trade exchanges through this vital crossing.”
He further elaborated on a “comprehensive development plan for the crossing,” stating that “the infrastructure for passenger movement is expected to be completed within the next 3 to 4 months. Additionally, modern X-ray equipment will be installed in collaboration with customs to streamline inspections and expedite the transit of goods.”
According to Abbasi, “The Bruzkhan crossing is among the most significant commercial outlets for the export of non-oil goods to the Kurdistan region of Iraq.”
He also underscored the importance of cargo operations across the border in supporting the livelihoods of residents in border areas, expressing hope that backing from the free zone at Sherine Palace will improve infrastructure and alleviate congestion and disorder at the Bruzkhan Bridge.”
In related news, Mohamed Shafi’i, the Acting Governor of Qasr Sherine, reported that “the Bruzkhan crossing has recorded exports exceeding one billion dollars since the start of the year,” and he anticipates a further increase in this figure as official crossings in the area are organized according to a specific schedule.
