Economic Overview: European Commission Initiates Investigation into E-commerce Practices
The European Commission has launched an investigation into Xi, a prominent Chinese e-commerce platform, due to alleged violations of European Union consumer protection regulations.
A representative from the Commission indicated in Brussels that there are credible concerns about widespread infringements of EU laws concerning unfair contractual terms, pricing practices, and other unscrupulous commercial behaviors.
The investigation will involve national consumer protection authorities across the EU, with oversight from the Commission to ensure compliance and thorough examination of the practices in question.
The Commission also noted that the e-commerce platform has been officially notified about the ongoing investigation.
Furthermore, the Commission had previously requested, in June, detailed information from Xi regarding its measures to tackle illicit products, instances of consumer manipulation, and the potential role of traders on its platform.
