Enhancing Digital Safety in Iraq: A New Initiative Launched

Economy Report – Baghdad

Tene Talk, in collaboration with “Ansem” Digital Rights Corporation, has initiated the “Safely – With” program aimed at enhancing digital literacy and media culture among Iraqi teenagers aged 13 to 18, as well as their parents and educators. This initiative aligns with Tene Talk’s ongoing commitment to bolstering digital safety across the region.

The “Safely – With” initiative will be implemented across 15 Iraqi governorates, targeting a reach of approximately 33,250 students, guardians, and academic professionals. The program’s core objective is to promote online safety and encourage responsible digital engagement among Iraqi youth, their families, and educational staff. It includes workshops and interactive resources designed to enhance awareness of digital security, responsible online behavior, and effective content evaluation.

This initiative fosters collaboration between Tene Talk, educational institutions, parents, and INSM, and it will produce culturally relevant educational materials in both Arabic and Kurdish.

Fateh Kavadar, head of government relations and public policies for Turkey and the Levant at Tene Talk, stated: “At Tene Talk, we are dedicated to ensuring our platform serves as a safe and supportive environment for young users. This initiative underscores our commitment to promoting digital awareness and enhancing online safety by equipping Iraqi teenagers, parents, and educators with the tools necessary to navigate the digital landscape securely.”

The initiative also aims to establish a sustainable framework that prioritizes education, awareness, and mental health, achieved through strengthened partnerships with local organizations.

Haider Hamzz, Executive Director of Ansem Digital Rights Corporation, emphasized: “Our organization is deeply committed to empowering communities in the digital era. We recognize the critical importance of fostering a safe, inclusive, and informed online environment for all users. Together, we can enhance digital media education, protect online safety, and safeguard the well-being of individuals in our interconnected world.”

The program employs a hybrid strategy that incorporates training in privacy settings, content management, electronic communication, and the promotion of digital media culture. This multifaceted approach involves engaging parents and teachers, establishing online discussion platforms, and forming university partnerships to support educational research and campaigns driven by students. The “Safely – With” initiative reaffirms Tene Talk’s commitment to digital responsibility and safety, ensuring that Iraqi youth are equipped with the necessary skills for success in today’s digital environment.
