Drone Strike at Kormor Gas Field: No Damage or Injuries Reported

Dana Gas Addresses Recent Drone Strike Impact on Kormor Gas Field

Dana Gas has issued a statement confirming that a drone strike on the Kormor gas field on February 2, 2025, did not result in any injuries among its employees nor cause harm to gas production facilities.

The company explicitly stated, “Dana Gas wishes to inform the market that on Sunday evening, the Kormor field was affected by a drone attack. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the damage inflicted on production sites was negligible.” Dana Gas emphasized that gas production operations are proceeding as scheduled, adhering to full security protocols to ensure the safety of personnel and assets.

In partnership with Crescent Oil from the UAE, Dana Gas is actively investing in the Kormor field, which is recognized as one of Iraq’s most resource-rich areas, particularly in natural gas.

Within the context of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, the Kormor field stands out as the largest gas field operating independently underground. It has been subject to attacks from Iranian-affiliated Iraqi armed groups in recent years, particularly amidst ongoing political tensions between Baghdad and Erbil.

The drone attack occurred shortly after the Iraqi Federal Parliament ratified an amendment to the budget law, facilitating the reinstatement of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region and Kirkuk through Turkey, a process that had been stalled since March.

Dana Gas affirmed its commitment to operational safety, stating, “We are in close coordination with all relevant institutions and security forces monitoring the situation to ensure safe operations.” Meanwhile, Pirl Petroleum and its partners have reiterated their dedication to secure operations in the Kormor field, which they believe is crucial for safeguarding shareholder interests and supporting the Kurdistan Regional Government and the broader Iraqi economy.

At a recent Iraqi Energy Conference in Baghdad, Ahmad Mufti, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, highlighted that the Kormor gas field employs 600 personnel and currently produces approximately 530 million cubic feet of gas daily, with an annual total reaching 750 million cubic feet.

Simultaneously, Abdullah Qazi, head of the Iraqi Hilal Company, which operates within the Kormor field, reported daily gas production of 16,000 barrels along with 1,100 tons of liquid gas. Qazi stated that their objective is to provide 24-hour electricity to the Kurdistan Region.

“We are currently in the expansion phase and anticipate concluding this stage by the end of the year, which will add over 270 million cubic feet to the network, thereby significantly contributing toward achieving our goal of 24-hour electricity in the Kurdistan Region,” he added.
