Canada Strikes Back: 25% Tariff on US Goods Unveiled!

Canada Imposes Tariff on U.S. Goods in Response to Trade Policies

In a significant move reflecting escalating trade tensions, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the imposition of a 25 percent tariff on U.S. goods. This decision follows the Trump administration’s earlier implementation of similar tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, which began on November 1, alongside a 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports.

The U.S. tariffs have provoked widespread discontent and protests across Canada, China, and Mexico, highlighting the strain in international trade relations.

Prime Minister Trudeau indicated that the first phase of the Canadian tariffs will come into effect on Tuesday, with the second phase to be rolled out within 21 days. This timeline is designed to give Canadian businesses adequate time to identify and arrange alternative sources for the affected goods.

The total value of Canadian exports to the U.S. impacted by this tariff decision is estimated to be approximately $155 billion.
