In a related development, White House officials announced that President Donald Trump has mandated the implementation of tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico. This decision comes in response to what the administration identifies as a national emergency linked to illegal immigration.

The new tariff structure will impose a 25% customs duty on energy imports from Mexico, while energy products from Canada will be subject to a 10% tariff.

As leading exporters of crude oil to the US, Canada and Mexico account for approximately 25% of the oil refined into fuel products such as gasoline and heating oil, as reported by the US Department of Energy.
