On Tuesday, the Basra Investment Authority convened to discuss the allocation of three percent of jobs within investment projects to individuals with special needs.
In a statement, the authority outlined its commitment to promote the integration of individuals with disabilities into the labor market. This initiative aligns with the Law of Rights of Persons with Disabilities and relevant directives from the National Investment Authority. The meeting, chaired by President Alaa Abdel-Hussein Salman, included participation from Ahmed Taqi Hashem, Director of the Employment Office for Persons with Disabilities, as well as a delegation from the advocacy group that focuses on disability rights.
The discussions centered on adapting investment projects to enhance access to job opportunities for individuals with special needs. The authority emphasized the importance of reserving three percent of available positions for this demographic, adhering to local legislation that supports their rights.
The commission’s chair underlined the necessity for strengthened collaboration among various government agencies and the private sector to create a comprehensive work environment. This will facilitate the active participation of individuals with special needs in both economic and social spheres. Furthermore, it was highlighted that effective policies are essential to ensure sustainable and equal job opportunities for these individuals.
In remarks, the Director of the Employment Office reiterated that allocating this percentage is a critical move towards achieving social justice and empowering individuals with special needs to engage in sustainable development. He also called for ongoing collaboration among all stakeholders to realize these objectives.
