The Basra Agriculture Directorate has announced the marketing of over 500,000 chickens for local consumption in February, with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency in poultry production.
Haider Adnan Al-Batat, the director of the Livestock Services Department, reported that the marketed quantities included 88,000 chickens from licensed poultry farms and an additional 442,250 from unlicensed operations throughout the province.
Al-Batat noted a steady increase in the production of chickens recently, attributed to the stability of white meat prices in local markets. He emphasized that the Directorate’s teams are actively providing guidance to poultry farmers to prevent disease outbreaks and enhance production to meet local market demands.
