Prime Minister Mohamed Shi’a Al-Sudani emphasized the critical role of renewable energy initiatives, particularly solar energy, in a recent statement.
According to a briefing from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, Al-Sudani led a meeting with the national team dedicated to renewable energy and energy efficiency. The discussion centered on a strategic work plan aimed at alleviating pressure on the country’s electrical system while ensuring a sufficient supply of energy and promoting energy conservation.
The Prime Minister underscored the significance of transitioning to renewable energy sources, advocating for solar energy integration as a means to achieve necessary reforms in power generation through clean energy and innovative technological solutions.
Al-Sudani directed the initiation of the government palace project under the broader framework of the government buildings sustainability initiative. This effort aims to kickstart energy and alternative energy projects across government facilities nationwide.
The meeting involved reviewing completed designs, including those for the government palace, and preparing for the implementation of a solar energy project for the Ministry of Interior, which is in the referral stage. Additionally, a completed feasibility study for the army channel project, which is set to be presented as an investment opportunity soon, was discussed. This project aims to generate 100 MW of clean energy. Plans for investing in smart solutions, such as pioneering solar energy systems for residential complexes, were also addressed, alongside initiatives to deploy smart solutions across various districts, including Muthanna and Anbar provinces.
The statement further noted that efforts have commenced on implementing smart solutions in the administration of service and collection contracts for distribution companies, as well as establishing technical specifications for solar stations. These initiatives align with the action plan to decrease reliance on conventional fuels and mitigate carbon emissions.
