The Ministry of Planning has announced the impending resumption of construction work on five schools utilizing ready-made building techniques in Wasit Governorate. This project had been halted since 2014.
According to a statement from the Ministry, a specialized team responsible for monitoring ongoing projects conducted a field assessment of the primary school construction initiative in the Essaouira district. The team reviewed current progress rates, identified the causes of the project’s suspension, and proposed actionable solutions to restart operations.
The project entails the establishment of five schools designed with pre-fabricated concrete, comprising four schools each with a capacity for 12 classrooms and one school capable of accommodating 9 classrooms, although it will be unfurnished. Currently, the completion rate stands at approximately 17%.
The initiative aims to alleviate student overcrowding and address the redundancy in existing schools within the targeted areas. The protracted halt since 2014 has significantly deteriorated the conditions of the buildings.
The Ministry has urged relevant authorities to implement the necessary measures to expedite the project’s continuation to ensure the establishment of an educational environment conducive to student learning.
