Economy News – Baghdad
On Tuesday, the Parliamentary Legal Committee provided clarity regarding the process of selecting the International Consulting Committee focused on the region’s oil issues. The committee emphasized that amendments to the budget law could resolve several outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil.
Committee member Mohamed Anouz stated that the Parliament’s endorsement of the budget amendment proposal signals a proactive approach to addressing the challenges surrounding oil production and transportation between the central government and the Kurdistan region. He noted that the amendment’s provisions include the establishment of an international consulting committee, which will be appointed with the approval of both the Federal Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan region within a defined timeframe. This collaborative effort aims to provide assurance that ongoing disputes will not persist.
Anouz reaffirmed that the Legal Committee remains committed to monitoring all legislative activities and procedures across the nation’s various regions, framing this as a collective national responsibility. He underscored that fostering a stable relationship between the Kurdistan region and the federal government is a shared duty and that addressing the region’s needs through constructive engagement is crucial for national cohesion.
He emphasized the importance of granting the advisory committee the necessary latitude to devise solutions that equitably address the concerns of both parties. This reflective approach aligns with constitutional principles aimed at preventing discrimination or inequality.
