Zahra Al-Bajari, head of the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee, underscored the significance of implementing the development road project in Iraq, asserting that it will facilitate the formation of new urban centers, including industrial cities, without imposing additional strain on existing provinces.
In a recent statement, Al-Bajari articulated that “the development road project represents a critical strategic initiative,” revealing that a specialized consulting firm has commenced work on the necessary plans for its execution.
She elaborated, indicating that “the first phase of the project will be financed by the Iraqi budget.” This phase encompasses the construction of a railway connecting the Port of Al-Faw to Shuaiba, along with the rehabilitation of the old network. Additionally, a new railway network will be established to link Baiji and Vishkhabur.
Al-Bajari emphasized that “this phase will serve as a reassuring message to international companies, illustrating Iraq’s commitment to the project’s implementation and highlighting its vital success factors, such as security stability and availability of technical and logistical resources.”
Furthermore, she noted, “The development of new routes outside urban areas will contribute to the establishment of new cities, including industrial hubs, thereby bolstering economic growth and generating employment opportunities.” She confirmed that “these urban developments will not add pressure to the provinces, as the pathways of development are planned to be strategically located outside urban centers.”
