Economy Update – Baghdad
Aoun Dhiab, the Minister of Water Resources, announced on Thursday that the government has implemented measures to ensure a consistent allocation of water for the marshlands, despite a decline in water imports from Türkiye.
In a recent statement, Dhiab shared insights from his visit to the marshes, where he observed healthy water levels and thriving local communities, including buffalo breeders and those engaged in fishing and handicrafts. He emphasized, “We have noticed a positive development in the region, and we hope to maintain this stability without fluctuations while relying on sustainable water conservation practices.”
The minister expressed a commitment to addressing the challenges posed by adverse climatic conditions and reduced water imports. He stated, “Despite these challenges, we are striving diligently to ensure a steady water supply for the marshes, aiming to revitalize these areas and support the communities dependent on them. This remains our primary objective, and numerous initiatives are being undertaken to bolster these regions.”
