Baghdad to Disburse KRG Salaries: Key Details Revealed

Baghdad to Disburse Salaries for Kurdistan Regional Government Employees

The Iraqi federal government is set to disburse the initial monthly salaries for employees of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. A high-ranking official from Baghdad confirmed that the first month’s salary will be distributed tonight.

According to the official, distribution of these salaries is expected to commence on Tuesday and continue over the following days.

Sources indicate that there has been considerable political pressure on Baghdad to authorize the payment of these salaries. Previously, salary disbursements were anticipated between November 10 and 15, but the timeline has since been adjusted.

It was noted that pensioners in Kurdistan will receive their pensions as part of this first salary payment. Specifically, those recently retired under Iraqi law—aged between 60 and 63—will be prioritized. Additionally, employees who have not completed the biometric verification process will have their salaries suspended.

For the upcoming month, the KRG will require approximately 1.1 trillion dinars to cover salaries. The potential for delays looms, as Baghdad’s portion of the salary payment exceeds 150 billion dinars.

A delegation from the KRG, led by Minister of Finance and Economy Awat Sheikh Janab, visited Baghdad to discuss these financial issues. Reports from Iraqi government sources suggest that discussions regarding the budget and salary disbursements were conducted in a positive and responsible manner.

These developments arise amidst ongoing concerns, as the KRG has yet to distribute the 12th month’s salaries. Last year, the KRG managed to distribute 11 months’ salaries, while the Iraqi Ministry of Finance states that it has sent payments for all months in question.
