Kurdistan Region of Iraq’s Finance Ministry Initiates Salary Disbursement
The Ministry of Finance of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) has officially commenced the disbursement of February salaries for government employees. The funds have been transferred by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance into the ministry’s designated bank accounts.
The total amount allocated for this salary disbursement is 957,925,880,078 Iraqi dinars, which matches the requested amount for February and will be distributed without any deductions.
According to the Finance Ministry, salary distributions will begin on Thursday, March 13, 2025. In preparation for this, the KRG has instructed all ministers to compile the salary lists for their respective ministries for the month of March. There is an emphasis on expediting this process to ensure that salaries are distributed before the upcoming holiday.
“We are diligently coordinating with all ministries, departments, and presidential offices to ensure the March salary list is submitted to the Federal Ministry of Finance next week,” stated the Ministry of Finance.
The successful transfer of February salaries is the result of extensive discussions and negotiations that took place over two weeks between technical teams from both the KRG and the Federal Ministry of Finance. This collaborative approach was aimed at addressing and clarifying all new salary requests for the month.
“Following the general guidelines established, a monthly review report will be prepared after the 10th of each month. This report will be instrumental in determining the federal treasury’s allocations from non-oil revenues,” the ministry explained.
Moreover, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance has reported the allocation of 1 trillion and 26 billion dinars for the February salaries of the KRG employees. Notably, 70 billion dinars will be redirected back to the pensions fund, ensuring adequate support for pensioners, while the remainder will be deposited into the Ministry of Finance’s account.
A reliable government source from Iraq indicated that the distribution of salaries for KRG personnel would initiate on Wednesday. Importantly, the Minister of Finance’s office has carefully audited the salary list provided by the KRG, which will serve as the foundational basis for salary distributions in the coming months.
For context, salary disbursement for January began on February 5, concluding by the 10th of that month. The ongoing dialogue between the Iraqi government and the KRG reflects a complex relationship in financial management, with the Iraqi government asserting that funds have been adequately transferred, whereas the KRG has raised concerns over the adequacy and timing of these funds.
