The Minister of Oil, Hayyan Abdel-Ghani Al-Sawad, announced on Tuesday that a delegation from the ministry has been dispatched to the Kurdistan region to establish a framework for the reception and export of oil through the Turkish port of Jihan.
In a statement, the Minister of Oil indicated that the delegation, led by the Undersecretary for Extract Affairs along with representatives from the Legal and Economic Department and the Oil Marketing Company, will engage in discussions in Erbil regarding the mechanisms for handling the region’s oil.
Abdel-Ghani further noted that he has been in touch with Kamal Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan region, to facilitate negotiations on this process.
At the beginning of this month, the Minister of Oil reaffirmed ongoing collaboration with the regional government to ensure a systematic delivery of oil to the state marketing company, known as Sumo. He also mentioned initiatives being taken with the Turkish government to prepare the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline for the export of oil through the Jihan port.
