"Baghdad International Fair Sparks Global Commercial Partnerships Amid Economic Revival"

Economy Update – Baghdad

The Ministry of Commerce has announced significant developments regarding the participation of the private sector and the Iraqi general sectors in forming commercial agreements with international companies at the Baghdad International Fair.

Ministry spokesman, Mohamed Hanoun, stated that the 48th Baghdad International Fair is witnessing considerable Arab and international engagement, highlighted by visits from government officials and ministers. These interactions aim to evaluate contributions from various sectors, including industrial, agricultural, and commercial. Furthermore, the Iraqi private sector has marked its presence notably in two large halls dedicated to national products.

Hanoun noted the involvement of various international companies in this year’s event, including participants from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Japan, Australia, Tunisia, Pakistan, Iran, and other nations. He emphasized that discussions and meetings are currently underway among different sectors at the exhibition, particularly between the Iraqi private and public sectors, focusing on acquiring materials and commercial commitments.

He elaborated that Iraq is currently experiencing a significant urban and investment surge alongside numerous major infrastructure projects. To realize these investment opportunities and reconstruction efforts, partnerships with international companies are essential for project implementation across several sectors. The exhibition has been diligently working to draw and accommodate international firms to engage with Iraqi companies across the public and private sectors, with the expectation of securing valuable contracts this year.

Last year, the fair resulted in the signing of over 600 commercial contracts, and efforts are being made from day one of this year’s exhibition to facilitate meetings between Iraqi and international private sectors. Hanoun expressed a goal of increasing these agreements, with an impressive 1,250 companies participating this year.

He expressed optimism that such a high volume of companies would lead to fruitful contracts between Iraqi firms representing both public and private sectors, while also exploring investment prospects in Iraq.
