Economic Developments in Baghdad

On Sunday, officials from the Baghdad Governorate announced significant progress in the construction of Al-Hurriya, Al-Fadiliya, and Al-Numan Hospitals, indicating a positive shift in the region’s healthcare infrastructure.

Haider Karim, Director of the Engineering Department for the Baghdad Governorate, provided an update revealing that the Freedom General Hospital project has reached a completion rate of 70%. This facility, designed to accommodate 400 beds, is anticipated to enhance healthcare services in the Karkh area, complementing Al-Kadhimiya Hospital to address the needs brought on by the region’s growing population. Karim emphasized ongoing efforts to meet the established timelines and expressed optimism that the hospital will begin initial operations by the end of 2025.

Regarding Al-Fadiliya Hospital, Karim reported an 84% completion rate and highlighted its capacity of 200 beds. He noted that the hospital is set to become an attractive center for medical professionals, featuring a residential complex with 28 deluxe apartments, each covering 180 square meters, designated for specialized doctors. Additionally, the facility will offer 13 operating rooms and 76 individual patient rooms, aiming to improve healthcare delivery in the eastern channel areas that currently face service deficits. The hospital is expected to commence operations by mid-August 2025, ahead of the original target of 2026.

As for the expansion of Al-Numan Hospital, Karim explained that the aim is to augment its capacity to 76 beds while introducing classrooms to transform it into an educational facility, given its strategic location within residential neighborhoods. He noted that the project’s completion rate is currently at approximately 65%, with service initiation anticipated for 2026.

Karim reassured stakeholders that the Baghdad Governorate is diligently working to accelerate progress on these critical healthcare projects within the projected timelines to enhance health services and meet the growing demands of the population.
