Baghdad Health Insurance Expands: 1 Million New Beneficiaries and Inclusion of 315 Contracts Announced

Economy News – Baghdad

The Health Insurance Fund, part of the Ministry of Health, announced today a significant expansion plan for the current year. This initiative is set to add one million new beneficiaries to the health insurance system, bolstered by a collaboration with the Social Welfare Authority, which will incorporate data for 450,000 citizens. The authority has also confirmed the inclusion of 315 contracts alongside a guarantee.

“Following the successful completion of the first and second phases, which provided health insurance procedures for over 1.16 million citizens within the Baghdad Governorate, the Board of Directors of the Guarantee Authority has outlined an ambitious plan for 2025 to integrate an additional one million Iraqi citizens into the health insurance system,” a representative noted. This increase is systematically categorized: the first group consists of employees in a mandatory capacity, completing the requirements of the first and second categories of the initial stage, while the subsequent phase will include employees from various ministries, extending the guarantee procedures to their family members.
The official continued, “The new regulations mandate that all employees adhere to the health insurance protocols, which encompass individuals across all employment grades. Furthermore, the Board of Directors has decided to extend health insurance procedures to 315 contract employees, granting them equivalent standing to permanent staff members.”
“Additionally, another segment will be part of the social welfare network in alignment with the government strategy articulated by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and under the guidance of Health Minister Saleh Al-Hasnawi, aimed at supporting low-income individuals. Consequently, the Health Insurance Authority has prioritized beneficiaries from the social welfare network,” the representative added, emphasizing that “the Social Welfare Authority has successfully provided data for 450,000 Iraqi citizens in the Baghdad governorate to be included in this year’s health insurance initiatives.”
