Economic Overview – Baghdad

Recent data from the Ministry of Finance indicates that over 80 trillion dinars were allocated to salaries within the first 11 months of 2024.

The comprehensive current expenditures totaled 134 trillion dinars during this period, with employee salaries accounting for the largest portion at 55 trillion dinars. Additionally, the social protection network incurred costs of 1 trillion dinars, while full-time salaries amounted to 672 billion dinars.

This translates to a striking 60% of ongoing operating expenses directed towards salaries. Conversely, investment expenditures were relatively modest, at approximately 12 trillion dinars, with licensing tour fees exceeding 10 trillion dinars.

As a result, salaries represented nearly eight times the amount spent on investment initiatives.
