Economy News – Baghdad
The Baghdad Provincial Council is preparing to initiate the advertising and referral processes for projects slated for 2025. In tandem, the Parliamentary Services Committee has emphasized the necessity of prioritizing quality over quantity in project selection, given the current limitations on financial allocations.
Chairman of the Administrative Divisions Committee, Muhammad Al-Shaalan, reported that all council committees and the Baghdad Governorate have begun compiling project schedules required for the 2025 rollout. These efforts will focus on selecting projects that aim to enhance service levels in various regions of Baghdad.
Furthermore, the governorate will disclose projects with confirmed financial allocations in accordance with Prime Minister directives. These allocations, amounting to approximately 400 billion dinars, will be doled out to administrative units based on demographic proportions, necessity, and priority, although this figure represents only a fraction of the overall needs.
In a related statement, Ali Al-Hamidawi, Deputy of the Parliamentary Services Committee, underscored the capital’s pressing requirement for numerous strategic projects aimed at improving essential services, particularly in water and sanitation. He noted that many areas remain plagued by inadequate water supply and sewage issues. Al-Hamidawi urged relevant authorities to amplify efforts and enhance project delivery to ensure a focus on quality rather than sheer quantity, emphasizing the current fiscal constraints that preclude any significant budget increases. The upcoming period will involve carefully selecting reputable companies known for their efficiency and precision to deliver optimal results.
