Economy Update – Baghdad
In a recent meeting held on Tuesday, the Council of Ministers enacted a decision to appoint 17 managers across various ministries while relieving 7 others of their duties.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shi’a Al-Sudani, the cabinet moved to discharge 3 general managers from the Baghdad Municipality due to their inadequate response to the effects of the recent rainfall that affected multiple regions in the capital. Additionally, the cabinet decided to exempt 4 general managers from the Ministry of Electricity following subpar performance evaluations.
The statement further detailed that the council voted to appoint 17 general managers in various ministries, based on recommendations from the Special Committee responsible for assessing specialized grades and public sector positions. This decision aligns with the government’s strategy to periodically review the performance of individuals holding specialized grades.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized that while the appointments of new general managers are significant, they remain subject to ongoing evaluation and accountability concerning their duties. The performance review process will continue under the meticulous oversight of the designated committee.
