On Wednesday, the Border Ports Authority provided an overview of its operational activities over the previous 24 hours.
Alauddin Al-Qaisi, the commission’s spokesperson, reported that the Umm Qasr Port Directorate successfully intercepted two 40-foot containers at the search and investigation point outside the customs area. These containers contained prohibited medical devices and supplies along with firearms, cleverly concealed among legally permitted goods.
Additionally, the Al-Qa’im border port, in collaboration with supporting departments, took measures to destroy expired food items, including soft drinks, that were deemed unsuitable for human consumption.
The Najaf Airport Directorate also made a significant arrest, apprehending a foreign traveler who was subject to a travel ban.
Furthermore, the Zarbatiya border port successfully thwarted an attempt by an Iraqi traveler to smuggle narcotic pills.
In another significant seizure, the Al-Shaib border port apprehended an Iraqi national attempting to smuggle $20,000, concealed in a sophisticated manner, in violation of Central Bank of Iraq regulations.
These operations were conducted in cooperation with various supporting departments, with all suspects and confiscated goods referred to the appropriate judicial authorities for necessary legal action.
