The Ministry of Transport is set to launch various electric and rapid bus initiatives aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the region.
Maitham Al-Safi, the director of the media office at the Ministry, confirmed that significant progress has been made in enhancing mass transit systems across Baghdad and its provinces. As part of this initiative, 34 new transport lines have been established, along with the introduction of red buses to serve the governorates of Nineveh and Dhi Qar, where 20 transport lines are now operational. Additionally, eight lines have been designated for collective transport to facilitate accessibility for university students in various parts of Baghdad.
The Ministry will commence identifying the initial trial route for the high bus project, starting from Maysalon Square and extending to the Nida Mosque intersection. Furthermore, preparations for the electric bus project are advancing, with specific locations earmarked for charging stations. Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani has instructed that all impediments to the establishment of new mass transport lines be resolved promptly during the forthcoming period.
