Al-Sudani’s Vision: Ending Bureaucracy with Digital Solutions

Economic Developments – Baghdad

On Monday, Prime Minister Mohamed Shi’a Al-Sudani asserted that the national card initiative represents a pivotal achievement and fundamental component for establishing comprehensive databases and information systems, marking a significant step toward the cessation of traditional issuance methods.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, delivered via a video link from the response headquarters of the Ministry of Interior, the national card project was inaugurated at the National Retirement Authority and the Directorate of Criminal Evidence as an initial phase, with plans for future inclusion of all Iraqi government departments. This new system is expected to provide a definitive alternative to conventional validation processes, allowing document verification in a remarkably short timeframe.

The Prime Minister also unveiled the “Ain Iraq” application, designed for digital verification services, which is integrated with the Directorate of Rapid Response (911). This application employs artificial intelligence technology to deliver swift digital services to citizens in three languages—Arabic, Kurdish, and English—facilitating easy access to its offerings. Among its features are emergency communication services linking users to nearby hospitals, police stations, and fire departments.

Additionally, users will be able to report crimes and incidents, file complaints with relevant authorities, and access traffic-related services, which include inquiries about fines, the issuance of new driver’s licenses, updating housing cards, as well as obtaining permits for weapons possession.

The Prime Minister expressed his support for these vital services, recognizing them as a testament to the Ministry of Interior’s advancements in digital transformation. This visit marks his fifth to the ministry to inaugurate significant projects in this domain.

Key highlights from the Prime Minister’s remarks include:

  • The national card is crucial for database establishment and information services.
  • Over half of the accomplishments in the national card initiative were achieved under previous administrations, underscoring the ministry’s efforts.
  • For a nation as vast as Iraq, establishing a reliable personal identification system is imperative.
