Iraq’s Oil Exports Set to Expand via Turkish Port Jihan

Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad has announced the imminent activation of oil exports through the Turkish port of Jihan, with potential plans to increase exports from Basra.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Oil, Minister Al-Sawad chaired a meeting focused on the activities of the joint Iraqi-Turkish committee, which included members from various Iraqi ministries.

During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the critical nature of the committee’s work, particularly concerning issues related to water and oil.

He highlighted the necessity of advancing the water agenda to ensure equitable water releases that benefit Iraq’s interests. Additionally, he noted that oil exports will be revitalized via the pipeline connected to the Turkish port of Jihan, alongside the potential for increasing exports from Basra oil through this route.

The statement further detailed that the meeting deliberated on various issues encompassing the sub-committees’ agenda, which includes topics such as water, energy and oil, education, border ports, communications, commercial exchange, and youth sports.

Minister Al-Sawad concluded that the meeting underlined the importance of fulfilling the technical requirements of the committees and enhancing collaboration with the Turkish side to serve national interests effectively.
