Economic Update – Baghdad
The General Company for Iraq Ports has announced that the completion rate for the roadway connecting the Grand Port to Umm Qasr port has reached 97%. This development is expected to enhance transportation efficiency between the two vital locations.
According to a recently issued statement, the implementation of the roadway project is progressing at a consistent pace, with the overall completion rate currently standing at 97%.
The company detailed that the first layer of the road from the city of Al-Faw has been fully completed, while the second layer is also finished. Work is now ongoing on portions of the third layer, which spans 9 kilometers of the second segment and 26 kilometers of the first segment.
Furthermore, it was noted that the road project originating from Umm Qasr has seen completion of the first layer, with minor remaining work on the second layer, alongside efforts to finalize the third layer. All safety wall constructions have been completed for the roadway (in both directions), and lighting has been installed between the city of FAO and the submerged tunnel, in addition to necessary traffic signal setups.
This project encompasses a roadway consisting of three lanes that extends over 62 kilometers, featuring a suspended section and two bridges, as well as intersections. These components are anticipated to significantly improve traffic flow between the Grand Port and Umm Qasr, thereby enhancing land transport and facilitating shipping and unloading operations at the port.
