The Ministry of Oil has announced that the gas transportation pipeline project from the floating platform is set to be completed within a 120-day timeframe.
Muhannad Abdel-Hadi, the director of the second group website at the oil projects company within the Ministry of Oil, stated that the current work includes a 40-kilometer path clearance and the transportation of pipes from Karbala to the project site. He emphasized that the project is on schedule for completion in 120 days. Abdel-Hadi noted that fabrication and welding activities have commenced, with progress reaching 15%. Additionally, the preparation of packaging materials is approximately 50% complete. Following the initial results, the company will begin the critical stages of sandy aging and welding joint packaging.
Minister of Oil Hayyan Abdel-Ghani previously confirmed plans to import a floating platform to meet the gas requirement for electricity production. He stated, “The ministry is taking steps to import a floating platform aimed at supplying gas to fulfill the demands of electric power plants.” Furthermore, he detailed that the Ministry of Oil is executing the pipeline that will transport gas, connecting it to the national pipeline near Shat Al-Basra. The distance from the port of Khor Al-Zubayr to the connection point spans approximately 40 kilometers.
Abdel-Ghani highlighted that significant progress has been made on the pipeline, achieving 30% completion within just ten days of work—an impressive rate in project execution. He also mentioned that six teams have been allocated to ensure the efficient implementation of this critical project, which is poised to significantly enhance the electricity sector.
Prime Minister Mohammed Shaya Al-Sudani is reportedly closely monitoring daily developments of this project due to its vital importance. Abdel-Ghani added that Iraq requires multiple lines for gas transportation and that the ministry is committed to providing alternative fuel sources for gas to power electrical stations in preparation for the upcoming summer.
The floating gas platform is designed to include a system for converting liquid gas into a gaseous state, which will subsequently be pumped into the pipeline.
